FCPX and Premier Pro CS6. The best of both worlds?

As I enter my last semester of college, I've come to the hard realization that while I love FCPX, I need to know Premier Pro. I downloaded the 30 day trial of CS6 yesterday and while I love how many advanced features there are, it's not as simple to just straight up edit. So I came up with an idea and found someone else who was doing something similar online.

Because I love the event viewer, auditions, magnetic timeline and connected clips for how creative it allows my storytelling to be and how much it allows me to easily experiment with new ideas, I've decided that I would like to use FCPX to put the rough cut together.

Once the rough cut is together I will send the project to PP6 using Xto7. My rough cuts will be nothing more than synced clips. Once the project is in PP6 then I can communicate with the rest of the post production world.

What problems can I expect using this workflow? Does this sound like a good idea? I'll do anything possible to get my rough cuts edited in FCPX because it is a great editing program.

Do any of you have experience with this?

I think this is all being addressed in your other post.

I think if you're coming out of college and only know FCPX you're going to have a hell of a hard time finding a job. Premier, and I will add Avid Media Composer, may have a learning curve but I would really suggest spending the time to get familiar with them. Almost all the production companies in my neighborhood are either still on FCP7, or those that were on FCP7 have moved to Premier or Avid. You may see some addition of FCPX in the future, but for the most part that boat sailed and Apple got left on the doc.

Now I will add that I think it is a shame that this has happened as FCPX is turning into one hell of a powerful editor. I am starting to use it in my workflow and really loving a lot of things about it. I am currently gearing up to cut a long form documentary in it as I think the organizational tools are perfect for documentary work. But all of this doesn't change the fact that not many are using it.

So in short... Don't try to short cut it. You will need to know Premier and Media Composer to gain employment in the current post production world. Spend the time to learn them and make yourself a more versatile editor.
