Is my Final Cut Pro X software a default?

Is my Final Cut Pro X software a default? was created by jeffkemp
I'm worried my newly purchased Final Cut software is defective for these reasons:
1. Even if I change Position to Select, the Magnetic Timeline doesn't turn on.
2. In my preferences, I know it's supposed to give an option for changing from Available Media to Overlap in "Transitions," but it isn't present in my software.
3. When I click "Download Additional Content," it just takes me to my Updates in the App Store.
4. The Audio in my footage randomly because really low quality and I can't get it back to normal.
Is there something wrong with my Software?
Should I complain to Apple?
Help ASAP.

1. "A" gives you the Select (Arrow) tool, and when you drag clips, other clips will move when the mouse cursor gets to an actual edit point.
2. That option is not in Prefs any longer. What happens is when you apply a transition, if there are no handles, FCP will ask you if you want to do an overlap. Much simpler, easier.
3. The trial version of FCP won't give you additional content. If you paid for it, then you should see it download. You may have it already, too. Go to the Music/Sound Browser, do you see a folder titled "Final Cut Pro Sound Effects" that is full of stuff? If so, you have it already.
4. What codec is your audio?
If you're having major troubles, here's what you need to do.
A- Run Disk Utility to "repair" all drives, don't bother with "verify", it's a waste of time.
B- Be sure all drives have at least 10-15% of total capacity as free space.
C- Download the free "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (dot com) to trash FCP X preferences.
D- If nothing else helps, move the Final Cut Pro app from the Application folder into the Trash. Then launch the App Store, go to Purchased tab, click "Download" for FCP X to reinstall it.

1. What exactly are you doing and what happens when you do it?
2. That preference was removed some time ago.
3. There's where you download the additional content.
4. Can't help you with that as i don't know anything about your audio and what its specs are.
Nothing wrong with your software.

No, your work is in the Event and Projects folders. Each one is an independent, unique database, stored totally separately from the application file.

How can I remove media handles from a transition and just overlap it?
Sorry I'm new to Final Cut and professional editing in general.

Well, I like the precision editor a lot. Double click the center of the transition to open the Precision Editor. Then grab one clip or the other and drag it.

It won't let me click on Precision Editor.

Double click the very CENTER, right on the edit point. Try at the top of the transition on the edit point. Its there, you're just missing it.
