Working in a big production house at the moment (owned by NBC) many FCP 7 edit suites.
Have been telling all about the virtues of FCP X but just getting wry smiles and looks that say "Humor the crazy man"

Well was asked to work on an urgent job. A Pilot that had to be sent to the big boys in less than a week.
All shot XD Cam. Big Multicam shoot featuring a conversation between 9 people.

Talk moves to ingest and conversion to ProRes. (FCP 7 hates XD Cam Multicam)

I pipe up. "Why not try FCP X? It treats XD Cam as native and is the best Multicam editor in the business."

Producers look to one another look back at me. "Are you sure?" Even they have heard the negative press.

"Yes, it will be 10 times faster" I say. They agree. :)

So far so good. All cameras synchronized with separate audio containing 7 mics perfectly. Loving the new expand audio function to isolate separate channels.

Other editors have been peeping through the door to see if I'm tearing my hair out. :P

Second producer came in later saying she'd made all the selections for the profile pieces.

"Ok great" I said "What program did you use to do that?"

"iMovie" she said...... I smiled quietly to myself. This is going to change a few preconceptions.

Seanus,

Want to do a 'User Story' write up when you've finished?

Would love to Peter but I don't think ere is much chance of success.
First of all the show has to get up.
Second the other editors would have to agree to switch. (They've never used FCP X)
Third. Editing this type of show would be a "last resort" for me, so I wouldn't be there to oversee the switch.

But at least I've planted a seed.

The biggest sticking point is always going to be collaboration. Once Apple gets this sorted then I'll really up the ante and begin to demand that they use FCP X.

Collaboration/networking and database stability, then we'll see folks flock to it.
