Importing from Panasonic P2 card. was created by LucasBruch
I have a canon vixia prosumer camera that I often use and have no trouble with in FCPX. Recently, I was given footage from a Panasonic camera on P2 cards. The clips were shot at 59.96 FPS. When I hook it up on the computer and playback from the card, it is fine. But if I import the video into FCPX and play it back, it is in slow motion. The audio is normal speed, but the video is slow. Is there any way to resolve this? I have searched the web for hours and come up blank.
Thanks for the help!

Specifically what camera where the P2 media shot on? I'm wondering if it was AVCHD or DVCPRO-HD.

Hey Ben. No problem. This is a Panasonic DVCPROHD P2. The files are .MXF

I'm going to pull out our HPX-170 and test this out. What frame rate and size was it shot at?

The clip properties state that it is 59.94p Frame Rate in V_FORMAT: DV100_720/59.94p

HHmmm... I'm unable to duplicate this. I'm shooting in various formats, settings, importing, everything seems just fine. Try making a proxy (from within the event browser) and see what happens. Just as a test.
Take the DVCPRO-HD file and open it in to QuickTime Player and see how it plays back.
I'm baffled. Only thing I could think is that it is a huge file and you don't have the hardware to play it back correctly. This is very odd.
Interesting that my P2 cards are seen as a Camera and not Devices. But they are inside the camera. And for the first time my AJA Kona card is seen as a Camera. That is interesting.

I use DVCPRO HD all the time. The format you have there is 720p 60p. Check to be sure your project frame rate is not 29.97 or 30p. If it is, then 60p footage will playback in slow motion (twice as slow). Start a new project and let the clip determine the frame rate and see if it plays back properly then.
Another note, with 10.0.7 there is a problem with 1080 24p footage. I haven't tested 720 60p footage with 10.0.7, but it's possible there is an issue there as well. I know all the 30p and 29.97 frame rates work well.

Yeah, I didn't think that would be it because it will only play slo-mo if you apply the "Conform Speed" command. There's no default keyboard shortcut for it, so I'm assuming that wasn't in any way accidentally applied. But check it by selecting the clip in the timeline, use Command-R to show the retiming bar. It should be green and read 100%.
I've done about a dozen clip on our HVX-170 at various frame rates, applying to various Project timeline settings, and I'm not seeing any issues. But that doesn't mean it is not a bug. Not all systems experience the same bugs all the time.

Thanks guys, such a great help. I think I may have made this more difficult on you. It was showing slo-mo in the playback window of the Events screen. Because of that, I didn't try applying it to a project. Now that I think about it, it may have converted the frame rate once I dumped it into a project.
I started researching and saw people talking about duplicate frames and got a bit blinded by trying to solve that.
I did notice on the import screen there is an option under "Transcoding" to "Create Optimized Media" Would that affect any change?

DVCPRO HD media is already optimized so there is no point in selecting that option, which would convert it to prores 422. That is used for non-optimized media, H.264, etc. that is highly compressed. By optimizing, the computer system will more easily handle the codec. But, in your case, it is not necessary.
