I have customized a number of Motion effects and would like to share them with another editor as I hand the projects over. As it is, the effects that I apply to my pictures and clips in fcpx are listed as missing when I copy the projects over. That is because the effects don't go into my events & projects drive, they reside in the Movies folder of my boot drive. Should I be manually be copying these customized effects over to the other editor's boot drive via the Finder? Is there a better way to do this? thx

Yes, you must manually copy them. Ain't no big deal, though. Pretty fast and easy.

There was a recent MacBreak Studio podcast on just this issue. Look it up to see what they recommend.

Yes, they say the same thing. Manually copy the effects. Not much else you can do at this point in time.

They also point out that since many effects are copyrighted, and you have exclusive use of them, be cautious of sharing effects you paid for with others who didn't pay for them. Probably won't work.

Not to mention that many are FxPlug scripts in whole or part. And many are Quartz Composer in whole or in part. And those are very easy to put copy protections on. So you can't simply copy them.

That's about it. My good co-trainers at MacBreak Studio say the same thing.

Take look at MTT Motion Template Tool from Spherico .

The Motion Template Tool allows to install custom Motion Templates in an easy and structured way. It is a good maintenance tool for templates as well -- both for creators and users.
Even if you don't want to use the application, it might be worth the time to read the pages below to understand how Motion Templates are organize

I have not tried it but it could help you.

You welcome

I think I'll do it manually. MTT looks incredibly involved and I can see myself butchering the hell out of the whole process. Know thyself!
