Downloading 10.0.7, but want to stay with 10.0.4 for awhile...

I can't afford the time at this point to upgrade my OS from 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion or even to go from 10.0.4 to 10.0.7, too much work going on to make changes with compound clips and so forth. (And frankly, everything is working just fine right now. No complaints here.)
But, I know my days for FCPX upgrades that will support 10.6.8 are numbered. I would though like to download 10.0.7, in case I want to use it in the future, just not right now. Anything wrong with this plan:
-Take my current version of and "hide" it in a folder.
-Download 10.0.7, but not open it, just tuck it away in a folder.
-Bring out 10.0.4 and get back to work.
My understanding is that aside from the app itself, nothing else would get installed from 10.0.7 that might "break" 10.0.4 (as long as I don't open 10.0.7 and allow it to upgrade Events and Projects).
Make sense?
Thanks,
Dave

That should work, but I'd ZIP the folder you're "hiding" 10.0.7 in. If you click on the dock icon for X it's gonna want to open the latest version you have if it can see it. If it's zipped up, it won't see it... IMHO.
Can't sleep? Try this: fcpxpert.net ;-)

I like the way you think. That's a good extra precaution that won't take more than 5 seconds.
Unless someone else comes up with a negative, I'll do this after I finish this current edit.
Thanks,
Dave

Honestly, realistically, to do what you propose will take up infinitely more time and effort that just doing the upgrade to ML and 10.0.7 to start with.

Ben,
Actually, it will not. When I leave 10.6.8, I lose my old Adobe Creative Suite. I will also have to upgrade a bunch of secondary apps that I use every day or week. I can't afford any of that until the economy gets better and my business starts doing better. My decision here is not based on laziness or fear or lack of understanding, it's purely on economics and time spent on upgrades that will break numerous things that I'm aware of and likely many more things I'm not aware of.
Also, I'm so busy right now that trying to keep up with teaching 3 online classes a week and then editing them, that I can't afford any downtime and frankly like many other longtime Mac users (since the mid-80's and a Mac Plus), I see absolutely nothing in Lion or ML that would inspire me to upgrade. I will just have to learn a whole new batch of workarounds in Mail, Address Book, etc. to get work done. The only app that I am forced to use and must keep up to date accordingly is FCP X. Nothing else.
The reason this response is so long is because I was thinking about this stuff last night and realized because of the above circumstances, I will likely stay with 10.6.8 until something in my financial life changes drastically or Apple and FCP X forces me to. At this point though, nothing is broken to fix.
(I must say though Ben that I always appreciate your forum responses because you always say what you think instead of supplying politically correct answers. I wish the rest of the world was like this, it would ultimately save everyone a lot of time.)
Thanks,
Dave

Dave if your macpro is 2.1 or earlier you won't be able to upgrade to mountain lion anyway as It doesn't support the 32bit efi.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about all the various app updates that go with ML. Yeah. But staying on SL ain't bad. What works, works.

Nah, I'm good. I've got an Early 2011 17" i7 MBP. Before the end of the tax year, I upgraded to 16GB of RAM and replaced the Optical Drive with another hard drive specifically for FCP X, so I'm in good shape hardware-wise.
Thanks,
Dave
