5.1 Surround and Stereo was created by DSvoboda356
Hey All,
Is it possible to export a sequence with (L, R, C, LFE, Rs, Ls) as well L Stereo and R Stereo on tracks 7 and 8 as you can with FCP7 through discrete channels. For Surround broadcast specs this is what is required.

You can do this in FCP X. You will need to duplicate your sound into a separate role(best with compund clips) and change the project settings between stereo and surround. It's quite easy to do and to export. You will export the timeline with roles as multitrack quicktime file and then set up the roles as surround and stereo.

If you are happy with not making a special separate mix in stereo then you can just use the same role used for the surround and add it to multitrack list as stereo during export. Either way you will still get 8 channels of sound. If you need to change the order of the surround channels things will get much more complicated.

If you have an iPad, you can download this (free) iBook, and there exactly what you want is explained in a video tutorial embedded in the book:

(I just saw it today, so your question reminded me of the video)

For discreet channels, roles.

After trying what sounded like the most logical explanation I could find online and realizing that the resulting exports kept getting down mixed, I came up with a solution that seems to work great. You can check it out here:

Hope this helps.

Just wanted to revive this old thread to say THANK YOU.
I had exported a 5.1 file without assigning roles and the result was a disaster

[strike]Well actually, it's not working for me.
Possibly because of the 10.3 update ?
After assigning all the subroles, when exporting, and choosing Multitrack Quicktime, I have only one track with the option of being "surround"
Any idea ? I really don't manage to export my movie with a real 5.1 audio[/strike]
EDIT: Since my problem is slightly different, I will create a new thread.
