importing stills/ into keyword collections

Is there any way to import stills into a previously created keyword collection? I often need to add new photographs to my events as I work and it would be convenient if I could target the incoming still to a specific collection. As it is, I import the still into the event and then keyword it from there. Not only would it save a step or two, it would make it less confusing if I forget to keyword the still and then have to go hunting around for it. thx

You mean select a keyword collection inside the Import window? No. But once you import your stills, just drag them onto the correct collection. Takes a full second.

But it is a nice idea. In the import window, when you specify the Event, have another drop down menu listing the keyword collections. Fill out the feedback page.

No - I meant select the keyword collection in the browser and have it automatically be assigned that to that keyword collection. I tend to be in those collections when I decide I need another picture, so when I go to import that still, it would nice if it would land there (as well as in the general event). Maybe that would create problems for people who had a collection open and then had pictures assigned to that collection unintentionally. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and invest a second of my time moving it in there manually.

If you drag and drop to the application and drop on the keyword collection the images will be keyworded and added to the event using your import preferences.

Thanks Tom - that will save me a lot of time. I feel like I tried that earlier and it didn't work. Was this part of an update?

Don't think so. Pretty sure it's always been there. I wrote about it in my book, which was based on 10.0.2.

I'll add a caveat for anyone else considering this. If you want to have the picture you're importing into your event reside in your event folder, make sure you've selected Copy Files to Event folder in the preferences. Otherwise, you wind up with reference files which aren't helpful when you're working with another editor on a different computer and the files haven't followed. Does that make sense?

If collaborating, you will go through appropriate processes like consolidating events, duplicating projects that include the events, etc, that will actually bring physical files into the event.

I'm actually now working in FCP X with someone doing collaboration work in a project that demands it be complex, and am documenting it all, working hard to simplify as much as possible, and will have a full tutorial article about it very soon on macProVideo.com.

Thanks Ben - looking forward to it. Lately, I haven't had problems with my work flow, but I recently needed to relink files and I think I hit Relink All rather than Missing and all sorts of things have disappeared. Lesson learned.
