Ah, yes, I see what you mean, they're not mixing board meters. Correct. I do a lot of serious audio work in FCP X, and waveforms have always made it quick and easy to locate glitches. But yes, mixing board format meters would be nice to have back. Or to be able to open the project (not round trip) in Logic Pro X. Imagine going into Logic, and in the Media browser, there is a FCP X bin. Since both will be built on Core Data, why not? I'd like to see this between Motion and FCP X, also.

Let me rephrase this. I wonder where on the priority list mixing board format meters are for the dev team? I'm sure they're on the list somewhere.

I'm sure it won't be a paid upgrade. Also there is no reason why Apple could choose to release versions 10.0.10, 10.0.11 and so on. They've done it before with the OS.

Have they? I considered that in my article, but wasn't able to find any examples.

OSX upgrades typically have 3 decimals 10[OSX name].8[Mountain Lion version].3[update number]. iOS is the same 6 [iOS name].1[major interim releases].1[update number]

Because OSX versions have been traditionally every two years, and now supposedly only 1 year apart, they never get very high into the decimals.

Legacy FCP also used a 3 decimal, single digit identifier. The final versions for each of the last FCP updates were-

FCP 7.0.3
FCP 6.0.6
FCP 5.1.4

From this, it would have seemed more likely that FCPX would have used 3rd decimals for maintenance updates. If they had, we would have had

10.0 - Original release
10.1 - First big update
10.1.1 - our 10.2
10.2 - our 10.3
10.2.1 - our 10.4

and so on...

but they didn't do this, so what you're suggesting [a 10.10] seems the only other way if 10.1 isn't in the cards until later this year, which I'm starting to believe more and more.

Yes it was Mac OS 10.4 Tiger that went up to 10.4.11

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Tiger

The impression I get is that it is EXACTLY like OS X where the 10 is really just part of the name.

So in years to come we will see Final Cut Pro X 10.11.3 for example.
If it survives that long. ;)

A couple of really nice article by Larry Jordan today.

A speculative article on the 2013 MacPro.

And a good state of the union piece on FCPX .

Larry encapsulates a lot of my thoughts on the MacPro. I had honestly forgotten about the Apple PR followup to Tim Cooks comments on the 2013 MacPro. It makes the statement in his email much less vague in it's implications.

I one of my FCPX 2013 article was going to be on "The MacPro Dilemma". I don't think I'll need to write nearly as much now.
