So here it is.
What the app does:
The huge amount of templates which come with Apple’s Final Cut Pro X can be boon and bane. One good thing is that many of those can be modified by the user to match custom needs. The bad thing is that there are so many not needed ones and these ones clutter the interface - you can still search by name though.
fxMover can help those who dare to dive into Final Cut Pro’s bundle and make the app even better fit their daily workflow.
You can download the app from here (3.3 MB)

So, it sounds like this moves all my extra effects I'm not using so much into a separate folder or place where I can access them only when needed? When you say Templates, are you including all titles, generators, transitions & effects?
Is there any way you could post a pic so people can wrap their head around exactly what this thing does? Maybe before & after interface pic so we can see the difference in the workflow...
thanks again

Now I understand it's just like the font programs that remove unused fonts until you need them.
My question is this; with lots of extra fonts installed there's a measurable drain on the system to some extent, is this the same with FCPX templates?
Does the FCPX program slow down or have some form of lessened performance with too many templates?

Funny, I asked that same question when FCP X was released and no one knew the answer. I then asked again a couple of other times since then and still never got an answer.
The question is whether FCP loads them all into memory when it boots or if it loads them only when you use a transition or title or whatever. I not sure anybody knows this for sure.
I have a bunch of additional paid and free templates from Simon, Alex4d, and others that are sitting in my Motion Templates. I suppose it would be good to have a program like Event Manager to move them in and out when needed.

But if you only need them for a single job you can move them around within the Final Cut Pro folder from the "Disabled Templates" to the "Templates" using the same subpath.
Regarding the earlier questions whether a lot of templates slow down performance in general simple answer is NO.
But there is a slow down if a lot of template are used, especially when they use text. Latter can be a nightmare.
I'm quite often involved in things like subtitling. So if you got a lot (and I mean not 50 or 100 or so) performance will slow down and opening such a kind of project may take a "real while".
It get's even worse when you use one of the mostly unknown real cool features of FCPX, you can change the font and the font size across selected title templates. Even if you do that for only a few you see the beach ball "forever" since FCPX loads each template instance, checks appearance and replaces the selected attribute.

That makes sense based on my experience with numerous templates. Is it because the templates don't truly get loaded into the program until you utilize one?
I have noticed that with text also. Typically, I don't render, but I have found that simply rendering some or all of the text portions of an hour edit makes everything feel faster.
