I think they should have had mistletoe hanging over them. ;)

Did I miss something or did they have that massive amount of Events and Projects on their boot drive (Macintosh HD)? I'm wondering how they are getting away that. SSD maybe?

It's an rMBP, so, yes, it is SSD.

I noticed the speed with such large amount of Events and Projects too!
We of course don't know how much footage is contained in each.

Peter, how can you not *love* those hats?

I use a rMBP to teach with. All my teaching material are on my OS drive. For demos and teaching, that is acceptable, since we're working purposefully with small events and projects. But for serious work, even SSD's still have the data pipe bandwidth issues any other drive has. I'd never really do serious work off my OS drive.

If you've done the APTS FCPX L2 book or Ripples own video courses, these are the events they used in those.

Interesting.

The largest SSD or "Flash Storage" as Apple sells in the rMBP config is 768GB. I just bought a Hybrid 750GB drive to act as an internal media drive (and I'll remove the Optical Drive and put the boot drive in it's place). I'm testing this drive now externally via eSata Expresscard slot before I commit to ripping apart my 2011 17" MBP and putting it inside. I'll post benchmarks on this new hybrid drive and experiences after I finish an edit or two with it.

Maybe in the next decade or two, the price of SSDs will come down and storage capability will increase. At that point, I can replace this Hybrid drive with a 750GB or 1TB SSD for media and only use externals for backup. This would make my life much easier.

Looking forward to the near future,
Dave

this episode wasn't as good as the other live shows. almost no questions from the viewers and in the end it was more or less a recap of their tutorials, which are quite good.

maybe the next live show will be better. they certainly need to promote it more so more viewers check in and can ask questions or help out with answers.
