So here's my problem...When I'm working on a project with Surround Sound and set a certain option under "Pan Mode" like, for example, Dialogue, sometimes the settings do not retain after I close and reopen FCPX. I can't seem to find a pattern and it happens randomly. On certain clips it will default back to None under the Pan Mode option. It's very frustrating going back through each audio clip to verify that the clip settings have been retained.
Here's a common workflow example. I'm working with some interviews and expand the component audio (Ctrl + Opt S). I only turn on the channel that I need, such as the audio from the Lav Mic and disable the audio from the camera. I will set the Pan Mode to Dialogue and modify some of the settings. I will close the component audio, and then place a Compressor on the clip to equal out the audio levels. Now, after doing this to about 15-20 clips, and then closing FCPX and reopening it, there are about 4-5 clips that default back to None and I have to go through and cherry pick to find them every time. But it seems like the same clips default back to None every time and I don't know why. It's driving me bonkers!
Anybody have an idea what the heck is going on here? Thanks so much for any insight!
p.s. I'm working with FCPX 10.0.7, but it also happened in 10.0.6. It seems to have started when the component audio feature was introduced.

I'd apply the Compressor before closing the audio channels up. Yea, I'd only apply it to the one channel. Why put an effect on that second channel that's not doing anything anyway?
Question; when you close FCP X and go back in, are you expanding the audio channels again to verify the pan setting, or just looking at the collapsed clip?

If I apply the Compressor before closing the audio channels up, then the Compressor does not work properly. I have it set at a max cutoff at -6db, but it goes way beyond that and sometimes peaks in the red for the center channel. However, when I collapse the audio channels and apply the Compressor to the whole clip...Then it works fine.
And yes, when I close FCPX and the reopen it, I am expanding the audio channels again to verify the Pan Mode. And it resets to None for various clips. Even when I fix the Pan Mode, and then export the clips, those same clips that I just fixed still export with "None" as if I never even fixed them. It's bizarre and frustrating!

I'm trying to duplicate this, but all works just fine for me. Pan mode sticks, compressor and other sound filters work just fine applied to only the individual channel.
Can you replicate this behavior with a different clip in a different project?
First I'd delete all related render files (File menu).
Then I'd use Preference Manager to delete all pref files.
