This guy keeps talking about Mecury Playback Engine in Adobe PP and say its way faster than FCPX
Have anyone done some testing, and what is your opinion about PP vs FCPX (on renderspeed)
Thanks

I know several folks who've tested them, and neither is without caveats, neither outdoes the other, and it is basically apples to onions. FCP uses OpenCL GPU's, Adobe uses CUDA GPU's. So they can't really be tested properly without swapping out graphics cards.
Also, not all OpenCL nor all CUDA graphics cards pack equal power. So not only is it physically necessary to swap out cards for these tests, you have to get cards that are very close in specs. Not the easiest task in the world.
But to make a blanket statement that Mercury Engine is faster than OpenCL is simply nonsense. From my own experience, OpenCL plays back better under more stress than Mercury Engine does. You need to do more rendering (at least I did) in PPro than in FCP X. Doing heavy compositing, ME broke down on me pretty quickly.
