Timecode Generator...accurate or not?

Timecode Generator...accurate or not? was created by thefcpguy
I had to generate some small QuickTime files with timecode burnin to send interview footage out for transcription. I opened each clip and applied a Timecode generator. No matter how I configured it, the timecode it displayed did not match actual code. The best I could get was 1-2 frames off, so I went with that because it was "close enough." I just wonder if anyone else has bumped into this.
Thanks,
Bill

What do you have the "Timecode Base" set to?

My footage is 1080i 29.97 drop frame, and I tried every preset available in the Inspector. Most were wildly off, but I think the 29.97 drop setting was closest (I'm not in front of FCP X right now).

Set it to "Current Project" and it should be dead on.

Yep, that was the default, and it was wrong. I'm sure it's pilot error, but I just don't know where I'm veering off course.
Here are my steps:
1) Import 1080i 29/97 clip into Event
2) Right click on clip and choose Show in Timeline.
3) Go to generators and drag the Timecode Generator to the first frame of the clip
4) Extend the generator to the end of the clip
Hilarity ensues. (not really)
Thanks,
Bill

Yeah, I just tested it and when used in a Clip Timeline it is off for some weird reason. When used in a Compound Clip or Project Timeline it is dead on. Filling out the feedback page...
Here's a quick tip for you. Hit the "Home" key (between alpha and numeric sections of a full sized keyboard) or Fn Right-Arrow (on a laptop or wireless Apple keyboard) to send the playhead to the start of the Timeline. Click the template you want, Q to make it a connected clip. Very fast and accurate.
