Weird happenings during import

So I've got some 5D mkii and mkiii footage I am importing into a new Event.
The only import preference selected is import folders as keyword collections.
The first import acted as expected the folder named "SD card" came in and a keyword collection was created and it happened instantly. I had selected multiple folders to import and it completely bogged down on the second folder. Background task window showed "importing files" progress bar and it started naming the clips with Date and Time not the file name as was expected.
Any ideas as to what may have happened? I've never had a problem until 10.0.6.

I will trash prefs but am I missing something? I didn't think it needed to "do" anything with h.264 if you didn't ask.

Any help is appreciated.

I've had this issue when I was importing my cards after copying them to a hard drive. I've been using camera archive to backup my cards lately.
