Not able to import File based cards in FCPX and Mountain Lion

It seems that I'm not able to import my file based cards transferred to my system into FCPX 10.0.6 and using Mountain lion.

thsi is the system setup...

1. MAC OSX Mountain Lion
2. FCPX 10.0.6
3. Card on external drive (Card structure still in tact)

What happens is this on import.

Import files: Where the card should be is grayed out and can't be selected.
I notice that the AVCHD folder is being recognized by OSX ML as a QT file and not a folder.

Obviously when I select show package contents, the BDMV folder is there but is also not a QT file. When I show package contents again for the BDMV the proper folders show up.

Is there any way for FCPX to properly recognize the folder structure and allow me to import the files as desired?

I know I can take the files and convert them or rewrap them in another program, such as ClipWrap. But I would rather import the files from within FCPX and start editing right away and let FCPX render/rewrap in the background.

Thanks,
Michael

since MacOS 10.8, the structure of a AVCHD recording is displayed as a 'Private' file/AVCHD content.

this is a pkg file - no single file but a 'wrapped' folder.
on Import Media, FCPX.06 opens that pkg and allows to import all or selective.

so, it is plain wrong, that you can open the nested structure of that Private 'file'.

is that extHDD MacOS/hfs formatted?

I am aware that the card is actually a wrapped folder structure.
The problem seems that OSX ML doesn't recognize the AVCHD folder as a folder but rather as a QT file. So when you try to access the copied card in FCPX import, the file/folder is grayed out.

So I don;t get any clips showing up in my import window to select from.

BTW you can open up the nested structure of the PRIVATE folder by selecting it and selecting "show package contents". This also has to be done for the remaining AVCHD and BMDV folders.

Importing directly from a card seems to be fine. But trying to select a copied card from a MAC NTFS Extended formatted drive, doesn't seem to work.
