Error when trying to duplicate project was created by akelic
I am trying to duplicate a project onto an external drive but it gives me an error which says the "start up disk has run out of memory" and then makes me quit FC Pro X. Has anyone come across this issue and worked out a fix?
i need to get the project of my HD in order to free up some space as i only have 36GB on my HD.
Thanks

The error is likely that your system drive is too full, and that you are also allowing FCPX to store its events and projects on the system drive. These should always be placed on either external drives or internal drives other than the system drive. You also need to leave roughly 15% of free space on every drive for its own drive management purposes.
What you can do now, is to manually MOVE through the finder your Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects folders to your second drive. Don't copy them , but rather MOVE them so you only have one occurrence of the project when FCPX starts up. Then your system drive should have more free space to work with.
You may want to repair disk permissions after you do this using disk utility, or better yet, repair the disks with Disk Warrior.
Finally, it might be worthwhile, after doing the above, to also trash your FCPX preference files using the free program "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion.
