I have some footage taken on an iphone 5 which is fine when played pack through quicktime player but when imported in to fcpx displays intermittent black frames at a rate of approx 1 every 12 frames or so...

I have tried all sorts of settings to rectify and cant find any online issues regarding the fault.

Can anybody help please?

Thanks in advance

Ian

Its a regular iphone movie, 30fps, H.264 1080p

Unfortunately the phone does not shoot a standard video format. Ideally you should convert the media to QuickTime with uncompressed audio before you import. You can also optimize the media when you import, but this doesn't fix the audio.

So Apple's own video recorder (iPhone) won't play nicely with its video software? Would using FiLMiCK Pro on the iPhone at 24P help?

I know. right!

Tried the filmic app but no joy. I noticed that its a H.264 format and FCPX doesn't seem to have this option when starting a new project.

Thanks for your help.

I've been using iPhone video in FCPX for awhile no, never any issues. Try optimizing. Also be sure you're importing directly from the phone inside FCP.

And what machine are you using for editing/playback? My very old iMac can not keep up with 1080p H.264 video so I always convert to Proxy for editing then switch back to native for final export. I have to do that with 720p iPhone 4 video, too. A new iMac is on order. :cheer:

As for iPhone video being a standard video format.... The iPhone uses the same standard as most DSLRs and POV cameras such as the Gopro, Contour, Drift, etc. It may not be a "professional" video format, but it is what is commonly available in cameras at the low to middle price point.

Thanks for the info. Found out that it works only via a direct import from the camera.

cheers
