Edit: I figured it out, it was the import quality, nevermind.

Apologies, first of all, I've no doubt whatsoever that this is simply the result of my incompetency (I just started using FCP a couple days ago), but I can't figure out how to fix it on my own, the primary problem being that I don't know what's causing the problem and it could be many different things.

I'm editing videos of me doing various things on my computers (screencasts), and in the source videos the text is nice and clear and looks fine, just like this (this is a screenshot from one of the source videos prior to anything being done to it by FCP):

And here's what it looks like after I've edited it in FCP:

Please help me, I've tried "sharing" (why don't they just call it "save"?) it as every possible format I can think of, I even initially ended up with a file that was over 1 GB for a 3 minute video! I then tried several other formats and got file sizes between 30-100 MB--I would think for that file size, the resolution would be very high and everything would be clear. Not only will it not let me set the resolution any higher than 640x480 (no matter what format or "destination" I set) but the text is consistently blurry and looks like absolute crap no matter what.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Bob,

I think your problem starts with the capture settings of your screencast. Open your original screencast video in QT player, press CMD+I to open the Info window and make a screenshot of that window so we can see the frame size and codec of your screencast.

Thank you, Ronny, it was the import quality, I'm an idiot (like I said), sorry for wasting everyone's time.

Oops I hadn't seen the "edit" line in your post. Now who's the idiot here? ;) Glad you have figured it out.
