Cutting/Pasting segment from timeline

Hi all-

I am just barely getting started in FCPX and don't know very much about it yet. I shot an interview with a canon 5d Mark II and used an extrernal audio recorder. I successfully synched the audio using Pluraleyes and I added subtitles using a custom title screen. Now I want to start working on my main piece using segments from this interview. Whenever I try to set In/Out points so I can cut and paste a part of the interview, it only sellects the video on the main storyline and leaves the audio aside. Is there anyway to selectively cut/paste a portion of the interview? Thanks very much.

Since I'm by no means an expert in this technical end of the process, someone may correct my post. However, it sounds like you're bringing the entire clip into the timeline, rather than setting your in & out points while the clip is in the Media Browser. I know you can edit while the clip is in the timeline, but I've always found it easier just to bring the parts of the clip you want down into the timeline, you can always use the slip or range handle tools if you need to get more of that section. So I preview the clip in the Browser, setting my in & out points, then drop my selected section into the timeline, move my segments around into the order I want, or mostly work from front to back, with the odd alteration. Add transitions, effects, titles, music, etc, later.

Thanks. The problem is the entire clip is already in the timeline, because I needed it there to synch the audio.

The clip still resides in the media browser also even if the entire section is in the timeline. You can set in/outs as TT9K suggests. Another option (there are a few) would be to blade (cut) the section in the timeline you want and copy and paste it wherever you need.

Thanks, I think I understand that. After rereading several sections of Larry Jordan's book, it seems to me that the cleanest option is to make it a compound clip, then set in/out points in the browser from that new compound clip. When I paste the new mini compound clip into the new project I can break apart the clip as needed. Does that make sense? Thoughts?

Was there a particular reason to use PluralEyes and not the excellent built in synch feature in FCP X? This is more of a workflow problem so if possible resync your material with FCP X and your problem might be solved.
