Hello everyone, now that Apple have killed off Soundtrack Pro, what is the best software out there to process audio in FCPX? Any tried and tested alternatives? Protools? Sony Sound Forge? Logic Studio? Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Nothing really, and STP didn't have any round trip with FCP X either. How far do you need to go with your audio engineering?

There is X2Pro that will take an FCPXML into ProTools, with some glitches.

I'm sticking with Logic Pro at the moment. Depending on how badly Apple screws it up, I may switch to PreSonus Studio One. It's as close to Logic as anything else, and actually seems to be about to surpass Logic in many ways in another update or two.

I used Reaper www.reaper.fm/download.php for a 10 minute dual system short. It is excellent and very old school in the same way that FCPX is very new school.

However in the end I found all the round tripping too time consuming and finished the project in FCPX.

It shouldn't be ignored that most if not all of the Logic plug-ins have been ported to FCPX. So the muscle is there, even if the organization has transformed.

10.0.6 is getting there. But I admit it is still a bit convoluted to be really practical and fast in the old school way.

Well, having been editing since before FCP 1, I'm glad the "old school way" is gone. It sucked, it was NOT "fast" in any manner. FCP X is finally a breath of honest fresh air and an NLE keeping up with the technology, not keeping up with how things were done two decades ago.
