working with pictures & text

I'm working on a project where I have photos and text as a slate which I want to tie together. I'm putting a slow zoom on both the text and photo. I've created a compound clip to keep them bound to each other, but when I add the zoom (generated in Motion and made a favorite effect), I am having troubles with my end fade which cuts half-way through. Not sure why it is doing this as it fades nicely within the compound clip. Is this the best way to tie two elements together (text & photo)? I'm not sure how else to do it. thx
