So will this help a Mac Mini with working with video?

Hi Seanus

Did you ever get an answer to this question.

I am in the process of testing an UltraStudio4k (Presently trying to get it to work. Period!)

But logically I would think that it should help speed things up!?!

This is also my main question with respect to this device.

best

Paul

Speed up in what way? It is simply an I/O device, right? That won't make the Mac Mini operate any differently. What specifically are you guys looking for it to do?

Hi Ben

I can not speak for Seanus but when I read the product description for the UltraStudio 4k:

"UltraStudio for Thunderbolt models are perfect for high performance work that demands the highest quality. With UltraStudio 4K you can capture and playback dual stream 3D stereoscopic or work at the highest 4:4:4 RGB and Ultra HD 4K resolutions."

That does get me thinking that it could take some of the pressure off my processors and do some heavy lifting!

Also I have the feeling that I read something about more "Real Time Effects" some where on the Blackmagic page.

If you go here:

www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/ultras...hunderbolt/techspecs

And scroll down to "Processing"

You will see: Real Time Effects

Apple Final Cut Pro™ internal effects.

Which suggests to me that this box will also do some processing. And effectively speed up my system!?!

I have one of these devices on loan along with a Dual Smart Scope device for testing but to date have not got any of it working.

I also like the idea that whilst this device requires the only Thunderbolt connection that I have from my late 2011 power book that I can at least get a reference monitor friendly signal out of it!

The smart Scope also intrigues me. Particularly the fact that it can display audio levels but that is another story...

Ah, yes, THAT would be a help. My Kona card did that with FCP 7. I use the scopes built in to my FSI monitor a lot, too. It does help.
