Render settings? was created by SuperEyeEye
First, this community has helped me a lot and thanks to all. I am about 4 weeks old in editing videos along with FCP.

Ok. question is my computer gets really slow as the video gets more layers and longer. My rendering goes every 5 seconds. I usually turn it off then when I am done then turn back on when I have an hour or so to let it catch up. Is that ok or is it better to render continues?

3rd video that I edited.

And leave it off, permanently!

When you need to render, memorize just two shortcuts:
Render All, Control-Shift-R
Render Selected, Control-R

I always leave it off and manually render if I need to. But it is funny to think back when FCPX was first released and nearly all of the basic tutorials touted its background render process. "Just work along and let FCPX render for you when it has an idle moment." Funny how reality sets in.

I dunno, from day 1 I've always taught to turn it off. Cause you basically don't need it most of the time anyway. The amazing thing is how much great playback we get with render lines, compared to legacy FCP.

I actually don't even know what it does or if its needed before I save the final project. I just know it slows everything down. Thanks for all the help. At least I know now that I can keep it turned off until I need it.

If you see an orange bar on top of your timeline means that the respective clips could need some rendering. Rendered clips speed up playback. If you don't see the orange bar, or your machine plays back fast enough for you (without stuttering), you don't have to bother with rendering your stuff.

You do not need to render anything before exporting. Exporting will do it's own rendering.

You can keep it turned off for good, use the keyboard shortcuts to manually trigger off renders you need.
