Been looking for freelance editors to help us out on a few projects recently. And while we're still using FCP7 for stuff, we're cutting more and more on X and the results are great (and easier to achieve). My next edit suite will be built around FCPX, with 7 only for legacy projects.

Been asking new freelancers if they can work FCPX and finding (with some) there's still a Luddite attitude to it. Opinions are still rooted in the: "it sucks" mentality from July 2011.

My guess is no other production companies are making the switch - yet. But bottom line is those who can't adapt won't get hired, surely?

Many are switching over. 10.0.6 raised the professional quotient considerably. Haunt these forums a while & you'll soon encounter many references to pros who are leaving the past with the luddites whilst stepping into a whole new world of creative possibilities... (& improved workflow).

Apple has always been visionary, rub that up against human nature, continually resistant to change, professional creatives just needed a little coddling, they're getting on board now, slowly but surely. Also, each new incarnation of FCPX, legitimizes the platform's professionalism in the industry. The question isn't... "How many versions should I wait before I switch over?"

But rather... "How soon will you start to learn this because it's the way of the future?"

Hope so. To be fair, some have said they'll look into it and ears have pricked up when I said we'll be switching over soon.

Real workflow advantages like Multicam and Red will I think bring people along- but there's little doubt that the perceptions about the software will linger long after they've been dealt with. And Apple really has no one to blame but themselves for that. More community outreach. More "In Action" stories- and continuing to lay out a roadmap that shows why not just choosing FCPX, but Mac as well, is a good bet.

Ha! I was just in your neck of the woods in September on my way to St Ives. Bit of a commute for me now, though...
