Remove black bars from an imported pictures was created by oritmiz1000
Hello,
After I imported pictures to Final cut 10 they all have black bars on each side.
How can I remove the black bars without making the pictures seems like stretched out.
Thanks
Orit

This comes under the 'Conform frame sizes and frame rates' section of the help system.
If you have a project whose dimensions are 1920 by 1080 and your images aren't 1920 by 1080, then you need to set a method to conform the size of the image to that of your project.
Do you want the pictures to scale up so there are no black areas? If so you'll need to lose some of the picture information if you scale up in proportion, or distort the pictures so they display at the same dimensions as your project.

Click the Choose a method of conforming frame size section to find out more.
As well as setting the Spatial Conform type of clips in the timeline, you can also select multiple pictures in an event and set the Spatial Conform type for all of them using the Inspector.

Sounds like the frame size resolution of your photo is less than that of your video settings. If you click the blue square transform tool while your photo is selected in your time line, you can adjust the size of the photo while keeping its proportions the same (no stretching, just enlarging. Grabbing from the corner can ensure the proportions remain intact while enlarging. You will probably need to set you viewer window to 50 or 25% depending on the size of the photo. You will definitely loose some of the photo as you enlarge it to fit in the frame, probably a bit off the top & bottom. If that's too much of a problem, then enlarge the photo to fit the frame, then do a Ken Burns pan up or down thru the photo during your timeline passage thru the number of frames the photo is on screen. There, done - your photo fits the video frame perfectly & you don't lose any of it... AND most importantly your photo is suddenly more interesting with movement.
Here's a little video to show you where that Transform Tool is & what it can do. In this video Izzy mostly makes his frame smaller thru transforming, but since you want to go bigger, you will need to first go to the top right of that viewer window & change your view to say ..25%.

Hehe... In the time I was typing mine, Alex got his post up first. (I really need to work on my typing speed) Check out his links as well, the more you become familiar with FCPX, the easier all these things will become, as well as opening new doors of creative possibilities...
