If you are referring to editing the text in a shared quicktime movie, then the text itself would not be directly editable in FCPX. If you are talking about how to edit text within the FCPX timeline project, then that can be done. Please provide more info on the file or project you want to edit.

I think you mean that the text is burned into the video and you don't have access to the original used in the project.

For that you have some options. If you have a lower-third title, you can put the title on it again. If the title is opaque, it will cover the old version and let you put new text; nobody is the wiser.

If you have a translucent title, it's trickier. If the part of that title where the text is located is opaque, you can put the same title over it and mask off the translucent parts of the title so only the opaque part is used to cover the previous text that's in error (I say that's in error because that's the only text you really care to edit; if some is on the translucent portion but is correct, leave it).

if nothing is moving behind the title and the camera was on a tripod, a desperate measure would be to hold the first frame before the title for the duration of the title masked to cover it up then put in your new title. Hopefully the edge of the title can mask any slight discrepancies. But, again, desperate measure. :)
