iMac 27" i5 quadcore
Trying to upgrade to 10.0.6 from 10.0.4 was created by simonjrwinter
The app store is telling me an upgrade is available and telling me to log in with an unknown account!
It was originally loaded from a DVD (which I no longer have) am I stuck with 10.0.4 or is there a way round it?
Thanks
Simon

Where did you get the DVD? You can usually only get it through the app store. Likely, you will need to get a DVD with 10.0.6 on it.

Did you buy it? AFAIK it's always been available only from the app store...
Can't sleep? Try this: fcpxpert.net ;-)

Thanks,
I bought the imac s/hand with the software pre-installed. I thought this meant the ownership of the software transfered to me along with the imac warranty is this not right? Am I trying to use software which is not legally mine? Great!
Simon

The original owner purchased the software through his app store account. Did he sell you the software as well as the computer?
If so, I wonder is there some way to transfer the ownership of the software onto your account?
Interesting....

Mac App Store purchases are licensed to the account that made the purchase. I don't think you can transfer that. You're going to have to set up your own account and purchase that software on "your" account from scratch.

Here is the official license agreement if it helps.
www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html
Near the bottom of that page is this line.
"You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, transfer redistribute, or sublicense the Licensed Application and, if you sell your Mac Computer or iOS Device to a third party, you must remove the Licensed Application from the Mac Computer or iOS Device before doing so."
