Newbie trying to import was created by simonjrwinter
Hi all,
I'm Simon a cameraman and dabbling editor (newsy stuff)
I've been bumbling along quite happily using Avid MC for cutting news packages, but nothing fancy.
I've made the transition to a 27" iMac and have FCP version 10. I use a Sony EX1R camera and would like to import files into FCPX to start to experiment as I'm brand new to macs and have never used FCP before
When I open up FCP and "import" my files all I get is green boxes, no footage at all.
However, when I insert a card with go pro footage on, it imports just fine!
I can open the EX1 footage in MC and the XDCAM clip browser, so I know there is nothing wrong with the footage.
I'm using v 10.0.6 and have the sony FCPX plugin installed.
If anyone can usher me in the right direction just so I can get started, it would be much appreciated. Please assume NO knowledge of FCP on my part!!!!
Thanks in advance.
Simon

From what I've been able to find, you are not alone with this problem. It seems to be suggested that the XDCAM Transfer program supplied by Sony needs to be used as opposed to directly importing into FCPX, but the conversation gets a bit diluted.
Maybe the following Apple knowledge base discussions will point you in a right direction.

Thanks,
Although there are two issues with this solution. The XDCAM software is designed for XDCAM and not the XDCAM EX footage that the EX1R shoots also in the pdf installation notes with the XDCAM transfer software, it states that the software does NOT work with FCPX!
