with the new share menu, fcpx adds annotations to your video. in previous versions of fcpx, this wasn't done... at least i never seen this
as you can see in the screenshot below, it has some generic infomation of the title (event name), creater (current user) and some other stuff. all these can be changed in this window by simply selecting them and then change them if needed.
in quicktime player when you press cmd + i you'll see the information that you've entered in fcpx.
a nice little feature

Not technically annotations, but keyword metadata. But yeah, it's a nice feature. Just trying to figure out when/where you'd ever find use for it. Do any other apps read this data?

videoplayers like quicktime read this information. i usually use these things when i upload videos to our website. it includes information of the title, copyright, etc.
it's good for distribution.

I haven't tested it, but I believe the tags get uploaded to web sites and can be accessed by search engines.

Fun, but the work I do and get paid for doesn't upload to YouTube. What will this do for professional work?

Probably not much unless you're delivering QT files. The clients might find the tags useful.

I'm just trying to figure out, as a trainer, how to describe/demonstrate the usefulness of this to a class.

The tags become YouTube keywords. It may not seem useful to some but 75% of my professional work is creating content for various clients' YouTube channels. It may seem a small thing but if you, like me, are pushing video out to YouTube every other day, auto generated tags and being able to upload to multiple accounts just made my workflow a whole lot better.

You could always customize keywords for that stuff, just never thought of a practical example. That's a good one. I can see having multiple accounts really useful, though. Thanks for the example. I'll have to remember that for my classes.
