Has anyone created a timecode burn effect that works in 10.0.6?

I know there was a workaround that Alex4D published a while back. But just wondering if anyone has figured out a way to get TC burn-in working again in 10.0.6?

I generally have to go to premiere to do it. And, it's frustrating that I can't edit with a client with TC burn-in turned on - especially if they are making notes while I'm editing.

thx!

Compressor does it very well, just create a preset for FCP X.

Hey Ben,

Thanks for that. I'm looking for a way to view clip TC (viscode as we called it in my news days) while editing.

I just checked with Apple. They said to not worry about it. Nobody needs that kind of thing anymore. They have a box full of time code, firewire, programs on DVD, documentation in a box set and dvd players and people rarely use them.
Overheard as the door swung shut on my butt..."Viscode? Never heard of that. Maybe I'll check with my grandfather..."

Easy ways to do it. Here is one way:
Select a lower third title (or any title, frankly) and drop it on the entire timeline covering all the clips you want. Choose one of the many timecode effects, such as LeoHans Timecode reader. Apply that effect to the title and you have what you need. You can use the inspector to adjust the size and location of the timecode and it will start and continue thru and across all your clips.

Creating history....one edit at a time !

Thanks for the info and response, but not quite what I was looking for. There is a bug since FCP 10.0.2 or .3 which won't allow you to see clip-based timecode burn-in using the tc effect. There's a workaround which was documented on Alex4d which is good in a pinch, but ultimately it's not a long-term fix.

currently there is no true solution that doesn't envolve lots of time and/or disk space...

it's either alex's method or as ben suggested, use compressor.

using compressor has a bonus alongside with fcpx. let me explain.

when you create proxy files with compressor, fcpx will read these files if you place them into to project folder.

~/movies/final cut event/your project/transcoded media/proxy

in other words, import all your media into compressor, create proxy files (they can have the same resolution as your source media or use half res), add timecode filter to the preset and then export.
when the export is done check the names of the files. they need to have the exact same name as your source files. now you can place these files into the proxy folder within your project (see finder link above).

please note that this will only work if you've not created proxy for this project using fcpx.
when you import your proxy media, make sure fcpx is closed. now start fcpx and switch to proxy media... voila, burned in timecode

this should also work with optimized media.

it's still a workaround, but now we have two ;)
