60D Multicam in FCPX with Content Created Feature? was created by Mojolemger
Has anyone ever worked on a multicam sequence in FCPX using 60d MOV files? I'm trying to sync 2 cameras, a T2i and the 60D using the 'content created' feature, but it's not working with the 60D files. Anyone know how to fix this? I understand that the T2i files come with the THM meta file for each MOV file, but from what I've read, the 60D has the meta integrated in the MOV file (and also in the CTG file???). Anybody know a work around?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
THANKS!

Hi Mojolemger!
I use a Canon 60D all the time and it works great and does not of what I need. The .mov files created from the 60D cut very well in FCPX. I don't understand why you are having problems with the footage created from the 60D? Can you explain how you have the 60D setup?

Thanks for your reply James,
I don't have a problem editing the files. My problem is with the metadata. When I use the multicam feature, and set it to organize the clips based on Content Created, then it doesn't do it correctly. My T2i files work fine and FCPX will sync them correctly, but not so with the 60D.
Have you ever shot several clips and then tried to sync them in a multicam clip using 'Content Created?

Has the time and date actually been manually set on the 60D? Probably not the issue, but thought I'd throw it out there just the same.

I don't know, I'll have to check. I think it should anyway have the default time settings even if it is incorrect. It should still be in the metadata, my problem is that FCPX doesn't seem to be able to access any meta from the 60D files.

Many cameras do not record Time-Of-Day timecode until the user clock has manually be set the first time.

I did not know that, I will check the 60D, manually set time, record some clips, import to FCPX, and try syncing a mutlicam clip with content created. Then I'll get back to you and let you know what happened. Thank you so much for your time and answers!

I finished testing out the 60D. After manually setting the clock, the syncing in fcpx worked... well almost worked. The second time around it didn't, and then the third time it worked again. All three times, I used the exact same workflow. I say it almost worked, becuase even though fcpx tried to sync the files, they were off by 1, 2, 3 sometimes even up to 5 seconds off with each other. I recorded the same thing to both the T2i and the 60D, and then synced them using content created, and the 60D files were way off with each other.
I gues I have to find someone else that owns a 60D, and fcpx, and uses the content created feature for multicam clips.
This was one of the main reasons I bought fcpx, and it sad to think it's almost a completely useless feature.

OK so let me get this straight. I have a a 60 D and T2 i and obviously FCPX. I can sync the clips of a wedding per se by timecode if i set the clocks the same???? Seems like this would be way faster than syncing by audio. Is this true Ben? Have I missed something so obvious?

Yes, that's the idea. Although you wouldn't sync with the 'Timecode' option, you would do it with the 'Content Created' option. That is exactly what I am trying to do with a T2i and 60D footage of a wedding I shot. The T2i footage with the metadata from the THM files syncs up nicely, but the 60D footage is off.
In fact, your clocks don't have to be the same. For example, you can have a different date, different time on each camera, and fcpx will still sync up the clips according to each individual date and time, then you can sync the 60D timeline with the T2i timeline which is muuuuuuuch easier than doing it on a clip-by-clip basis.
Could you please try this with your T2i and 60D? I would greatly appreciate it!
