This is super cool! I'm going to donate now. I wish that Apple could pt something together for FCPX on the iPad! Thanks for sharing!

I've used a few of these type of things before and they rarely work well. If it had a three wheel colour grading mode I'd be interested but I personally can edit faster with a keyboard. Scroll wheels are so nineties!

I have to agree with Seanus here. I've used every remote control for an iPad/iPhone for FCP ever put on the market. They're a fun novelty for the first 10 minutes. Then you find you really need your hands on the keyboard way too often for a remote pad in your lap to be efficient.

Best of luck on their success, but unless they can put EVERYTHING on that iPad screen, and make it work faster and easier than keyboard shortcuts, I have to honestly doubt it's future.

The fastest way to edit is via a keyboard, nothing has proven itself faster yet.

I'll have to agree with both Seanus and BenB, I don't see how using one hand for navigating and editing (plus changing windows,etc...) instead of two hands in the keyboard can be faster. And yes, that scrolling wheel seems slower and less precise than jkl + arrows...A thing of the past...

I agree replicating quick-key functionality seems like a waste of time. Until you can entirely replace the keyboard with buttons that function more fluidly than a keyboard, there doesn't seem to be much point.

I'm more interested to see something like this in the roles that control surfaces are already filling, like a mixing or color board. It would be great to be able to break out parts of the FCPX interface that make sense when you need them and benefit from touch control.

35k? And that is his first app? I'm not so sure about that one.

I like how proponents of touch control surfaces like to mention how many keyboard shortcuts there are for a given program. The thing is, once you know the program well, you're not actively looking at the keyboard and pressing keys. It's muscle memory. And because there are many different ways to do the same thing, not everyone uses every key combination.

Now... gestures (here's looking at you, Magic Trackpad) do have a place in NLE workflow. I just don't see a full touch control surface being useful in the near future. We're not there yet.

Hello

I've begun to use this $1 app : itunes.apple.com/us/app/actions-for-ipad/id564645608?mt=8
Is usefull, not the answer to the mouse less/keyboard less fantasy world, but it's helpful.

Regards

Or you could go out and get a MC Transport from [strike]Euphonix[/strike] Avid. This way you can feel what you are doing.
I would even prefer a tablet. :)

I've been using an MC Transport (Color & Mix, too) since the old FCS3 days. Wish Color would work with the color board pucks. But Transport works well right out of the box. Again, I've used every iPad remote controller ever sold, and hated them all. Love the Transport, hate iPad controllers. You're going to have to touch your keyboard and/or mouse/trackpad often even with an iPad controller. Going from a controller to your mouse/trackpad/keyboard is super slow and clunky. From mouse/trackpad to keyboard and back is super fast. Nothing will beat out a keyboard any time soon.

As Krzysztof I downloaded " Actions for iPad " and it works, I use it just for master keys that I don't need very often (go to colorboard, snapping, skimming, etc) because as many you said editing with a external screen sounds great for the first minutes, then you realize that is not so cool. Just look at the video on kickstarter how many times the developer takes his eyes out of the screen to look at the table searching for the buttons he has to "press" on the iPad.

What we do need is an app to control the colorboard and an audio mixer.

Yes, Apple needs to build in hooks for the MC series (Avid now) so we can use MC Color and MC Mix, and other such control surfaces. Fill out that feedback page, y'all.

Also gave Actions a try for the iPad (got it when it was a buck) and have to say that it works pretty well!

Primarily using it for transport and marker controls so I can sit on my couch and watch the film instead of at my desk. But i've also mapped out some of the more ridiculous keyboard shortcuts that usually require a few fingers to get right ;)

Thanks for the tip!

As for this ipad controller, i'm skeptical. I have a contour shuttle pro i got years ago that sits on my desk and is never used. Never got in the habit I guess.
