How much faster is Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6? was created by alex4D
As well as the headline story here on FCP.co...
10.0.6 brings a 3200% speed increase when rendering effects on a Final Cut Pro X timeline
...Nick Toth did a test with NewBlueFX Titler Pro, Tokyo Split Animator, BG PIPe Dream, built-in Looks effects and colour corrections: 30 second ProRes 422 1080p24 advert using many edits and effects
I did a simple speed comparison between 10.0.6 and Adobe Premiere CS6 which indicates the speed difference on one specific Mac using a specific video card.
Does anyone have any more figures to share?

Hi Alex,
Thank you for posting this.
After all the nasty experiences we have had when putting PPro to the test (on a system that had been especially assembled to get best PPro performance) I am certainly not a big fan of this application.
But to be fair: you are using a Radeon card to do your testing, and Premiere does work better with a beefy nVidia card. Don't have much time now, but I will try to do a small comparison test with an nVidia card tonight.

PPro runs much faster with a CUDA card, but that doesn't help you much if the editing process, in general, is much slower than FCP. I render my stuff over night most of the time, so rendering speed does not really matter to me.

So I'm taking the stance that since you can't get equal OpenCL and CUDA performance from any one single video card, comparing each fully equally is impossible.

Alex mentioned the 3200% faster article...I dunno. Nothing scientific or even close to scientific...but my gut and raw perception seemed to be no perceptible speed increase. Not as much as when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to ML.

Extremely noticeable exports for me. Very noticeable on both a 2007 MP and a new rMPB 15".

This update is much much faster. It's getting to the point where editors are never going to get to take a break.
I have CrumplePop film grains and those things took forever on all the previous versions of FCPX. Like enough time to go to the bathroom. Now, it's done rendering before I can even think of doing something else.
Overall 10.0.6 is a lot faster than 10.0.5 or below, but how does this compare to the other NLE's out there? I've only used FCPX so I can't compare, but it seems like this speed boost should really make FCPX something to consider for any time constrained editors.
I'm very happy with the direction this program is going, I just hope more people start working with it. Right now I feel like any place I tried to work wouldn't take me seriously for using FCPX, but then I probably wouldn't want to work for a place like that anyway.

It would be interesting to run the same test on a BTO iMac 27" coming in December given that it's using an nVidia card. It might be a more level playing field.
With much of my work "over night" is to be avoided since it's often news related. The ability to export in the background while going on to the next piece is major for me.
