Cinestyle in fcpx

Is conduit the only way to have a workflow solution in FCPX for working with my canon footage utilizing cinestyle?
I have come across the Pomfort plugin, does anyone have experience in using it?
Open to advice on this one, I'd like to shoot a documentary project in mid October using cinestyle but I would like to have the workflow in place and tested before hand.
Thanks

Quick update.
Before I posted this question I did a search query using the word cinestyle and very little came up. However, I then went to google and it led me back to fcp.co and this 'Using the CineStyle Technicolor Profile In FCPX'
I honestly did look before asking! Sorry.
Abashed, lee

i too would like to know the workflow and if there's a free lut plugin for fcp x. Also, as H.264 doesn't hold up too well with regards to grading, do you apply the lut to the clip once converted to apple prores HQ or before?

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Thank you for pointing out the Pomfort plugin. I myself use Conduit to apply the LUT at the moment, but if a "direct" fx plug is faster, it might be worth it.

Since FCP X will render any graded/effected footage immediately to Prores, I have gotten in the habit of using the raw Canon files as source. Logically this should not be worse than preprocessing to Prores, but I will stand corrected if anyone has a different view on this.

Since Technicolor just mailed me a survey about Cinestyle, I am guessing (hoping) they will soon offer their own FCP X / Motion effect for it. Fingers crossed.

If you don't mind the lack of mathematical precision, you can get a decent (and maybe even visually preferable, depending on the footage and the look you're after) result using the native exposure controls of FCP X. It's not an exact curve, but you do have control over lows, mids & highs.

This might also be useful: rarevision.com/5dtorgb/

But so far no "magic curve tool" yet, alas.

i use the pomfort DSLR log2video effect and can say i'm happily pleased. a little more control in the interface might be a nice addition (it's either on or off), but over all i feel it has a better look than you get from using FCPx exposure controls. 4 out of 5 stars :cheer:

Compared Pomfort & Conduit method for performance, they're both about equally fast/slow. Also got myself a license for 5dtorgb, which now does an excellent job converting footage from e.g. Canon to ProRes and applying the cinestyle lut at the same time. Yes, it's an extra step, but then your footage is ready to go in FCP X. All 3 options have their advantages/caveats.
