FCPX timeline drop down clip menu lost

It is probably a small detail, but it matters to me.
What happened to the menu of the clip in the timeline? And where can I find the same functions?
I refer to stabilization on clips already added to timeline for example...
It seems I can stabilize a clip directly from inspector panel, but some clips, already added to my timeline, does not have the stabilization or rolling shutter choice.

I came here to ask the same thing: where the heck did my little clip menus disappear to? They've vanished. I can right click and click "Video animation", so is that what I'll just have to get used to?

Maybe a small piece of the solution

It remains to understand what happened to the clip menu items and what could be a proper workflow replacement...

Just a reminder that X is unfortunately not quite yet ready for primetime. It's more than a bit disconcerting that with each update comes the possibility of completely unpredictable bugs in projects created in earlier versions. Oh well...

In this case as well as a bug I think there is a problem with the documentation...
Would have been enough two strings about the menu suppression ...

Really? Not according to many of my seasoned pro students and consulting clients.

Let's be honest that FCP X has no more bugs or needed feature enhancements than any other NLE. I cruise the Avid and Adobe forums. Lots of bugs, lots of missing features, lots of things don't allow desired workflow. No NLE according to your argument is ready for primetime.

Look - I love FCPX and I support its continued development as a robust, next-gen NLE. But I can completely understand why, in the face of these weird and unpredictable incompatibilities, I would be hesitant to move a large scale production operation to X.

I see Apple as basically conducting a giant beta test of sorts with users who can take more risks with their projects (and get higher rewards, of course). At some point, perhaps by 10.1, we'll finally be at the point where we can install an update, start a major long-term project, etc without taking a giant breath and just hoping things work out.

Hopefully, by that point, we'll also have some nice new Mac Pros to use it on as well!

So, Avid and Adobe products are bug free when they release major updates? Nope, they are.

No seasoned pro would ever update mid-project, or upgrade to a new release until the bugs are worked out. Unless you want to be a first adopter, which means you deal with initial bugs. That's true for any software from any company.

Ben is correct. If you start a long-term project using the current version of any NLE software this means you are sure that you will be able to finish this work comfortably using the features this version has. Otherwise you shouldn't start it at all. When in the middle of this project a new version of the software comes out it is not very wise to update the software because every update brings its own particular quirks that may or may not have a negative impact on the work you have been doing on this project. This is true for any NLE software I have ever worked with in the past and this probably won't change in the future.

Just as an example: we have several FCP10 stations running. One station is currently used to edit a feature film that will take another month to finish. I haven't updated this station yet and I won't do it until the film is finished, just like I wouldn't do this if it were cut on one of our Avids.

As to FCP10 not being ready for prime time: we have been using it for prime time work every day since 10.0.3 and it only has gotten better since. So I really don't know where you get that idea.

I will state that I had a misunderstanding with a friend recently over 10.0.6. He's very seasoned and knows full well we all take chances upgrading the day an update hits. I said damn the torpedoes (meaning accept there may be problems, but what the hell). But I assumed he knew the risk. It is always there. But, it was assumed I meant there were no bugs, even though I had no way of knowing that.

Stuff happens, you live with it, you move on, bugs get fixed.

I'm loving 10.0.6, FCP X in general, and have been running a post-production business with it since the day it was released. I've been in this business about 15 years now "professionally". I'm not sure how I could be using an NLE that was no ready for professional use to produce professional products?

Very odd. All my clips (that are in a project) show stabilisation/rolling shutter in the inspector, some were added over a year ago.

Same here. No problems with stabilization/rolling shutter not showing up. I have tried some different projects, all with different formats. Weird indeed. Very curious to know what may be causing this for some people.

...and what about the other features in the old menu? Any suggestion? Where are?

I love FCPX and his approach to editing...

About not appearing stabilization options in a few clips I solved as follows:

- Select clip in timeline
- Reveals in Event (the selected portion is still selected)
- Analyze stabilization
- Replace the clip with selection from Event (now I have stabilization and rolling in Ispector)
- Fix stabilization from Inspector

I haven't seen the problem on my Mac Pro, so it's possible it is hardware specific. But it would be worth a try to trash your preference files and restart FCPX. Use the free app "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion.

If you don't see stabilization or rolling shutter option in Inspector you have most likely selected a synced or a compound clip.
To stabilize a synchronized clip you can use "Open in Timeline" command and then use stabilize command.
To stabilize a compound clip you have to break it apart first.
