Analyze for color balance OR NOT?

Analyze for color balance OR NOT? was created by RonPriest
I'm still confused on the need to actually analyze a clip for color balance or just click the color balance button on an unanalyzed clip. I mean, what's the difference? If you actually take the time to analyze a clip, it will, well ... take time, but you apparently don't have to analyze a clip to use the balance color option. So, what's the reason to take the time to analyze it first? Does it do a "better" job at white balancing the clip if you analyze it?

Difference:
The analysis process extracts color balance information for or from the entire clip where, when the clip was not analysed and you balance its color in the inspector you are determine the reference frame from that clip.

Really? Is that true, or did you just make that up? So what's the benefit? I need to read up on that, did you get that information from the users manual? Thanks.

Thanks guys. So, am I safe to assume then, if I have a shot where the light doesn't drastically change throughout, Im safe to NOT take the time in analyzing the whole clip, just click to balance the clip at a place that well represents the whole clip and preferably where something white is in the shot?

I would guess so, unless the light is part of the effect.
I prefer using balancing the color in the inspector when the camera was not white balanced and has a slate.

You can do a full clip analysis after importing, too. Right-click it in the Browser, and do the color balance analysis there.
