!0.0.6 Window Layout problem fixed was created by dgwvideo
Thought I would post this fix under a new topic. I previously posted that the update to 10.0.6 caused the inability to restore the FCPX window layout. After spending the better part of the day trying to fix this, I was successful by doing the following.
Found this Apple knowledge base article for starters (which was written for 10.0.2) support.apple.com/kb/TS4169 which is basically the solution. For my Mountain Lion OS 10.8.2 the layout folder is located in user/library/final cut pro directory. I trashed this and restarted FCPX. Note - this is not a preference file that Digital Rebellions prefs manager will trash so you need to do it manually thru the finder.
Now my modified layouts open as I last left them within FCPX.
Looking at my trashed layout folder, I noticed that the Final Cut Pro.saved.moduleLayout file was locked (had the padlock closed in the lower left of the file icon). This was preventing FCPX from saving any changes made to the layout in the current session, so it always brought up the default 1 monitor window configuration. The folder (which also gets trashed when you trash the Layouts folder) named "Modified" contains a file called Default.moduleLayout that is always read at startup by FCPX if your custom config layout is locked.
Anyway, it now works fine and I understand why. Hopefully this may help someone else if they experience the same problem.
