RED XML Genius needed

I have an entire sequence that was shot on RED and edited in FCPX. I transcoded everything to proxy files and was planning on doing my Online in Resolve when I'm done. However, with the new version of FCPX, I'd love to just be able to swap in the RED native files in there which will make things a lot easier down the road (particularly since I shot 4k and plan to do some punching in).

Any genius XML guys have a good way to relink these files with RED native files. The names are the same, but because they are R3D, the typical media relink wasn't working for me. Maybe this is an XML translation type thing....?

I'm not having any troubles switching between original R3D files and ProRes proxy files using the switch in Preferences. I import originals (doesn't matter if I copy to the Event or not) and have it make proxies at that time. I'm not having problems. Of course when I adjust RED RAW settings I have to regenerate new proxies. Are you don't anything differently than that?

If you started the project this way, that would work. But I have been editing this sequence since 10.0.3 and back then you had to transcode to proxy using RedCine-X and bring the files in that way in order to edit in FCPX.

What I want to do now is relink to the RED files, but can't seem to find a way other than reimporting and frame matching (which is now possible thanks to dual viewers!)

You don't have to do anything to the XML.

Resolve has the tools you need to replace the media once your XML is imported there.

The easiest might be to import the XML, let it bring in the proxies, and then change the parent directory on all your Media Pool clips to the directory containing the R3Ds. Resolve is smart enough to use the base file names minus extensions, and also use TC only if you need.

The last poster got you nearly there, but obviously the goal is to get back to 10.0.6 for finish. So, here's what I've just tested and it works.

Take current RCX created proxy sequences (the one you've been editing) and go ahead and export the XML.

Jump into Resolve (again, I know you don't want to finish in it anymore, but we're going to use it as a translator.) Import all the necessary R3Ds into the Media Pool, and then import the FCPXXML that you just exported. It will give you the option to bring in the media itself, but you're better off IMO to just bring in the proper R3D media yourself, and then uncheck the import media checkbox in the Resolve XML dialog. So, it'll bring in your sequence (it'll tell you you're bringing in an XML 1.2 and that it only supports XML 1.1...ignore it, worked fine for me.)

So now you'll have your cut seq in Resolve. Don't color or change anything, just go to export XML (Shift-Cmd-O) and save the new XML. Import that into FCP X, and if everything's gone well, you'll have your same sequence, as well as a new Event that will have the R3D media you utilized in the sequence (though not necessarily everything you had in your original proxy event.)

Anyway, worked for me on a quick test project...curious to hear if it works on your end as well.

Brilliant - thought this might be what I needed to do. I'll try it and report back!

As suspected - works great. I have to clean up some things mostly regarding resizing because I shot at various resolutions, but now that I have all the source media there, it should be a snap.
