company logo mattes and fills was created by TAP369
Hi from a newbie! I've been crunching through learning FCPX/Motion, but I've got a problem I've not enough experience with yet to solve:
I've been given two folders of images which are a company logo to put over the end of a movie. 1 set of images is labelled "Matte" and is clearly meant to be a mask for allowing the content of folder 2, labelled "Fill" to show through to my footage. I've tried to search for what to do with this and tried many permutations of using Motion to assemble and import to FCPX without luck. Can anyone suggest a workflow for this? Thanks

You put the fill image on one layer and put the matte image on the layer above. To the matte image, from the video inspector, to apply a blend mode, probably stencil luma.
If you need to put a third layer underneath the logo and the matte layer, you'll need to select the two and combine them into a compound clip, or the stencil will cut through the bottom layer as well.

Thanks, yes stencil Luma works for cutting the text, but the logo has a moving wash of colour which goes pretty dull
Compound clip certainly works, but again the blending mode allows the text and logo to show through to the bottom layer but I've lost the bright colours of the wash. Should I have a different blending mode on each of the 2 logo layers before compound clipping them?

I's have to see the matte layer, but it sounds as if it's not been properly prepared. Whatever you want to be visible in the logo layer below needs to be pure white. Whatever you want to be transparent needs to be pure black. Shades of gray will create varying amounts of transparency.

Thanks, I messed around with layers and blending modes and found a combination that worked: Matte layer on top stencil luma, fill layer below normal. Then compound clipped them, then duplicated compound clip - top compound stencil luma, bottom compound clip subtract blending mode. I'm sure this all could have been a lot simpler , but whatever works...!
