ADR microphone alternatives was created by sirdavidabraham
Not sure this is the best place to post this. I'm ready to give ADR/Dubbing a go in FCPX is there an industry standard microphone brand that is used for this purpose, and if it's obscenely expensive are there reasonable alternatives?
Finally is it recommended to try to attempt ADR/Dubbing directly in FCPX or should I be looking at Logic/Protools for this?
Gracias.

Hi, yes you can use FCPX to put together your sound mix in glorious Surround. However, I would use a dedicated audio app for capture and sculpting. I currently use Adobe Audition (

) but I have also ran with logic and Soundtrack Pro. ProTools is a major commitment to both Hardware and software and a ton of learning. Keep your cash for the Audio interface and the Mics;)

I do it all in FCP X, it's just as efficient for voice work as a dedicated audio app for that. We do lots of voice work daily, ADR, VO, singing. I actually find editing faster in FCP X than in Logic Pro (where we do all of our high end audio and music production).

As for a mic, there's no one size fits all. We have an extensive mic kit and match the mic to the specific persons voice. I know not everyone can run out and buy half a dozen mics, that's simply not practical for a small shop. So shop around, and go to other studios and see how their mics perform. An all around general purpose mic I'd recommend is the Sennheiser e865 with a "quality" pop filter (cheap ones are cheap and don't really do the job).

I work with Jason Koons (ext 1389) at Sweetwater, have for almost ten years now. I never go anywhere else for my audio needs. They have the best customer support, will answer questions without trying to sell, simply the best of the best.
