Hi, I'm a new Final Cut user and just recently got X for editing a 25-minute private project I have been working on. Most of it was shot, and i started editing. Every once in a while, Final Cut would freeze and I would have to turn off the computer(I have a new MacBook Pro, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, Mountain Lion 10.8.1, so I really am baffled) then turn it on again to continue. One night, it had frozen up twice, then the third time I turned it on and opened up Final Cut, and the project was just gone, like the little clapboard symbol was offering to create a project. My events were fine, and had all the sound effects in them that i had used whilst editing, but it was just gone. I could find the project in Final Cut Projects folder, but when i clicked it, final cut said: the document "CurrentVersion.fcpproject could not be opened. The file isn't in the correct format. The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format." I made copies, tried the backups, but got the same thing. I took it to the genius bar, but they couldn't do anything, telling me to start over. So i started over and thought I had a CrashPlan backup, worked on it for another month or so, and when i was near the end, it froze up one of it's numerous times and the same thing happened. The CrashPlan backup wouldn't work either, despite it being from about a week before the event. I am seriously annoyed  , any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

These sound a bit like operator errors. You should probably review several tutorials and get a bit of FCPX training before jumping directly into editing a project.

Other things to check...
Be sure you are using 10.0.5 version of FCPX
Upgrade Mountain Lion to 10.8.2
Sounds like you need more RAM also and system may be minimum spec
Be sure your events and projects are not located on your system OS drive but rather an external drive (preferably a minimum of Firewire 800 7200 RPM drive).

Creating history....one edit at a time !

Yeah, I really should get an external drive. i will update the operating system. Do you have any tips on how I could get the project back at all?
