Non-Linear movement on crop and feather ?!*@ was created by mrrachman
Has anyone else noticed that the movement on the crop and feather works under a non-linear movement? i cant believe it, i've been working with it for about a month now and only just realized. i was putting it down to my motorized pan head being off but i just did an experiment where i applied the trim filter to one clip and the crop feather to the other and had them both crop from one side of the frame to the other and the crop and feather movement moves in a way similar to all apple type movement; with a type of 'natural' movement!!! ie it slowly comes in, speeds up and slows down towards the end.. i cant believe it.. why would they do something like that on a pro app???!!?!?!?! and there is no way to control it! and what's worse is that it does it to every keyframe along the way so there is no way to control it. ahhggggggg - does anyone know of a third party plugin that could help me out?

Yep, it does that, it does Ease In/Out, which is what most folks use more often than not. Fill in the FCP X feedback page, and ask for a real keyframe editor in FCP X. I have a feeling we're going to see one similar to the one in Motion. But Ease In/Out is for now at least the default keyframe interpolation type.

Following your message, I'm working on a Trim filter that acts like the crop tool in trim mode (the way crop used to work in Final Cut Pro 7).
You will then be able to keyframe the controls - keeping the animation speed linear.
I'm adding a feather effect too.
If you want to move a clip from place to place with linear curves for scale, position and rotation, use my 'Smooth Move' effect .

It almost works - in the version of the effect I linked to above you can have control the animation curve for the left crop parameter only.
Due to a limitation in Motion 5/FCP X, only one parameter per effect can have animation curve controls. That means producing a new version of this effect...
I've produced a pair of effects that will give you the result you want. The first crops the left or right of a clip, the second crops the top or bottom. If you want to crop all edges of a clip and have curve controls, you'll have to apply two of the first and two of the second to the same clip...
I'll add them to the links on the blog post now and write up how to use them over the weekend.
