Is it true that in fcp x you cannot change the aspect ratio of a video...
Is it true that fcp x has problematic broadcast monitoring with interlaced footage ...
Please tell me that i am doing something wrong...
Thanks

You can but it requires a bit of workaround. This might get you started

Not heard of interlaced media being a problem. What are you using?

thanks for the reply.
I am using a mac pro 3.1, blackmagic multibridge latest drivers, 10.8.2
the footage is interlaced dvcpro 50 imported with fcpx from p2 camcorder. The broadcast monitoring in event browser is wrong. Strobing and flickering... the field order is right in video info tab.
the problem with the aspect ratio is that I captured some widescreen footage with media express pro ress 422 and when i am importing it in fcp x is 4:3.
The same thing when rendering something in after effects

You'll need to contact Black Magic about the first.
The second is a problem. There is no way to set the anamorphic flag for media not captured in FCP. There is no good way around this without distorting the image to remove the anamorphic squeeze.

Maybe I am misinterpreting this, but footage shot with a P2 camera in DVCPRO50 with SQUEEZE (or widescreen) will accurately be imported into FCPX and retain 16:9 aspect. I just tried this with some footage I had from 2 years ago shot in that format. So importing from camera and pointing to his media express footage looses this? I'm not clear on the issue.

The problem with the aspect ratio occurs when I capture from tape.
When i am ingesting from camera interlaced dvcpro 50 footage I have a problem with external monitoring using blackmagic. Also Fcp x doesn't recognise the format when i drag a clip in an empty project.

That happens if you don't capture using FCP. It can't set the flag correctly. Asked for this often. Maybe the next time.

So to be clear, I tried to import a 720x480i clip shot on tape but captured with FCP 5. When I import the quicktime movie into FCPX, everything is fine including the 16:9 aspect as originally shot with the squeeze mode on the HVX200A. You are saying this works because a version of FCP originally captured this and preserves the anamorphic flag...correct ? If I would have originally captured with Vegas or Premier, then that flag would have been lost upon ingest into FCPX...also correct ?
