Newbie looking to pull off something cool

Newbie looking to pull off something cool was created by Mcfly
I'm still fairly on the "newbie" end of a novice videographer, I get most of the basics and can trial and error my way through some of the more difficult tasks.
I have a wedding to shoot and I'd like to incorporate this very cool effect with some slow motion video or just stills:
I'm not asking for someone to tell me every step of the way, but if someone can point me in the general direction or maybe a few tutorials that would benefit me I'd greatly appreciate it!
at the moment I'm kind of overwhelmed with where to begin since there is soo many tutorials on soo many different topics.
Thanks to anyone who can offer any advice!

It's all compositing. Some Bokeh type blur applied to stuff. Take fireworks, put under the main footage, play with the Blend Modes to the main footage on top. Several ways to approach this. I'd do it in Motion, too. If I had fireworks footage, I could probably give a step by step. But yeah, just blend modes, maybe some travel mattes, some blur (de-focused blur, not Gaussian).

I'd echo what Ben says about doing it in motion. Off the top of my head, I'd probably use a firework particle generator from the library, tweak it till I had the look I liked, use an instance of it as an image mask on the footage and a second instance as an overlay which I'd tweak the colours and opacity of. Then put a slight push or move onto the group that contains both.
It's a nice sequence. Wasn't aware of it. I'm a fan of good title sequences so thanks for the youtube link.

A fireworks particle emitter would work, but wouldn't look as organic. I'd get some fireworks shots from a stock footage place such as ArtBeats, one that's already keyed for you. But if you don't have the money for that, you'll need to go with the particle emitter.

Hey, firework lovers...Here is a free 3 pack of fireworks:

Or, pay $19 to buy the 16 pack. Watch the video, it's pretty cool.
