RENDER VERSUS SHARE/EXPORT

One thing that was my big hope with FCPX was to get faster render times and now I wonder, what is FCPX really doing ? I have a clip that i put FCPX own Stabilization on and it will take a while to render but if I export it ,not rendered, to Prores 422 with the share function it takes just a few seconds. Amazing ! So theoretically it could go much faster to render at least some material so what is FCPX doing? If I have long clips that need time consuming rendering I now have a special project/timeline for that and export it instead and uses that clip. Time is time.

I usually edit with background rendering turned off and don't render specific clips (using Control-R), as most timelines can be played without rendering.
I did a few tests and found that exporting without rendering is quicker than rendering first and then exporting.

Stabilization has to Analyse the clip and create a database, not just render.
And yes, at this time, export is faster.

render before export grants higher quality output because fcpx will render at 32bit. if you just use export without render, fcpx falls back to 16bit. that's why it outputs faster compared to full timeline render.

Is that documented anywhere?
