Im trying to work out how music video producers manage to match the colour scales on every scene, its quite hard to explain but on different scenes of my video the skin tone changes of the person etc

Basically I'm trying to match the colour scale in every video without any luck, please advise on how to do this, any tips will be great.

fcpx or every other editing softwares got tools for basic and sometimes advanced color correction but they are limited. This is just a small part inside a big software.WHen you need more possibilities for color correction, then you need a "Grading software", like lustre, scratch, davinci...from my side, i don't think there is a magic button inside all softwares, but with work all jobs can be done, nothing is impossible ;-)
Matching colors is very easy when you have the knowledge and the right tools.

You need to learn basic color grading and correction. Alexis Van Hurkman has written a few books that are the best at this.

The Color Correction Handbook

You also want to look into DaVinci Resolve , there is a free lite version that you can download and use. If you are planning on using FCPX this is definitely the route to go and it is used across the board.

Before you get into all that deep study, there's a marvelous little trick built right into FCPX called Match Color.

www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/fcp_x_match_color_stone.html

A couple clicks & everyone will think you've mastered DaVinci.

You might want to do a few searches on youtube for "FCPX match color" to see other examples. I've used this feature & found it to be nothing short of amazing. Sure you can tweak more after, & or add one of the professional grade color treatments (MLooks, Magic Bullet, etc), but you can do a LOT with just FCPX. Certainly produce broadcast quality music videos that will impress & bring you more business.

The Match color function in FCPX is 50/50. I've had success with it for talking head shots, corporate stuff and the like, but I have also experienced erratic results with any video that has a lot of motion, detailed scenes and multiple variations of coloring. The scenes need to be really close in content, motion and color saturation for Match Color to work properly. Use with caution.

I've found the color match to fail most of the time.
