Importing and file names

When importing footage into FCPX using 'Import from Camera' why does FCPX change the clip names to year/month/day/time? Even though I will be changing the names within the browser when organising my project I still would like their original clip name and number to show up. Reason being where were importing various cameras (EX1 & two Canon) and when the clips were all being imported they all had the above so when all this media imports its hard to decipher what is what when transferring media between systems.
Just to note I uploaded a bunch of photos to Dropbox recent and I had the same situation where the original JPEGs had their name changed after uploading so is this something to do with OSX??

OS X doesn't change names of anything by itself. DropBox changed the .jpg files names? Really? Wow! Yes, we're still filling out the feedback form to tell Apple to stop changing file names on import. Ugh...

Yeah I uploaded about 5GBs of stills to dropbox using there Camera Upload service (to gain more space:-) The .JPEGs where named accordingly to the camera naming that I had setup in my D800. After they had uploaded they had the same naming as convention as the files have when they come into FCPX (when imported using 'import from camera' thats why I thought there might me an OSX link somewhere, but that was a long shot.

I know P2 stuff is renamed, but that's built in to the plugin from Panasonic, believe it or not. But other stuff, I'm not sure. I don't have anything to work with. If anyone has non-P2 stuff I could get a DMG or ZIP of for testing the renaming stuff, I'd appreciate it. I have DropBox.

I've been on the Dropbox forum and apparently the Camera Upload function is designed to rename the file in that way which I find totally bizarre and can't think why they would do that. Fingers crossed for the next FCPX update and naming eh:-)
