Quicktime question

Quicktime question was created by Ute Fan
Hi, this board has been a great resource and I have a question because if might effect my output. A client gave me a drive with a million videos that he captured with fcp7. I saw the settings and know he did it right. It was shot in 30p and everything was set to capture at 30p. On his computer the QT files looked fine. When I look at them on my computer it has that bad interlace look when things move fast. There is no preferences with the qt app so I don't get what is going on. Any suggestions of why the exact same files look good on one computer and bad on another? Oh and I have tried them on two other Macs and they are messed up. So the only place I have seen them work is on his, TIA

could be he had quicktime 7 pro and an older Mac system (and set the prefs to run files HQ with deinterlace checked in the properties), I noticed with ML that interlacing is happening on my older material but I just open them up with pro7 and set the flags

Which QT player are you using? What QT player is on his machine? Please give complete and exact specifications of the media. 30p doesn't mean much.

You could also post some screen shots of what you're seeing.
Sounds like you're using different operating systems. Is that so?

There won't be any differences between the version 10 variations of Quicktime, but there are from QT 7. Although, as Tom says, you need to be more specific about the exact file specifications of the movie files in question (i.e. codec, frame size, etc.).
I playback QT movie files from my Power Mac G5 captured under Tiger into my (now Mountain Lion Intel Mac Pro but previously Lion Mac Pro) and the issue is not with interlacing but rather no image at all. I simply resave the older Quicktime movie file under the new OS and then it plays fine. Appears to be something between QT on the older systems and AV Foundation on the newer.
