How FCPx treats Motion 5 Templates... was created by ktc@conwaycorp.net
I have created a template in Motion 5. This template is 2 minutes long and contains a placeholder for a video. The videos I use to fill this placeholder are usually 2 minutes long as well, but some are shorter. The shorter videos are about 10 seconds short of 2 minutes and they go to black for the final 10 seconds of the template. When I try to shorten the length of the template in the time line to cut out the black, FCP speeds up the video.... so I'm still left with black at the end of the template. Even if I blade the clip at the point it turns black, FCP still adjusts the speed of the video to keep the in and out points the same.
I want to be able to blade or shorten the clip (template) in the timeline without affecting the speed of the video in the place holder. How?
Thanks
Kevin

I should have used the words "drop zone" instead of "placeholder."

Yeah. This is an annoying default, especially with templates that combine 2 oe 3 sections like the text ones. The work around I use is to turn the motion graphic into a compound clip and then slice that.
Another thing about dropzones I'd like to see improved is for FCPX to show the path or name of the movie file that's been added to the dropzone so when it goes offline (as it does at times for me using Event Manager X) I can relink it. At the moment I have no idea what the offline clip is.

Thank you robertdee... that is a much more viable solution than the one I just happened upon. My solution would entail me going back into Motion 5 and reworking each of the 30 templates to set the video to loop at it's end.
Thanks again.
